“There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs!”

This week marked the first steps of my business administration course as I began attending my college lessons. It was insightful to put the theory learnt into context of RP Analytics, continue reading to see what topic I covered at college.

Top 3 learning from the week:

  • 1stDay at College: On Thursday I attended my first lesson at college. We had a basic induction to the course where we received a learning plan outlining the topics we will be learning; they all seem really interesting and I’m looking forward to being able to put the theory into context here at RP Analytics. After our induction we completed a personal SWOT analysis and set SMART targets, this was good and has helped me to add to my personal development plan. The topic of the lesson was ‘Understanding the Organisation’ where we looked at visions, values and aims of a business. During the lesson we also covered the three different business sectors: public, private and third.
  • Organisational Structure: We also covered different organisational structures during the college session, but I decided to give myself a head start by looking at the RP Group structure. I found this exercise really interesting as it allowed me to think about how the team supports each other and interlinks. I found this task to be not only beneficial to my college studies but also to my learning in the workplace as it gave me a greater understanding of every body’s role within RP Group.
  • LinkedIn Recruiter Searches:  LinkedIn recruiter is a really powerful tool for recruiters to use to find those who are open to new opportunities. You can conduct searches based on peoples current and past job titles; locations; keywords and number of years’ experience. By being able to create such a specific search it really allows you to find the most relevant people for a role. This week I have learnt how to save these searches and from saving them I have been able to set daily alerts so that when someone matching my search criteria registers as open to new opportunities I am immediately notified. This is key to recruitment as it allows us to find the best talent as soon as they land on the market.

With another lesson at college next week I look forward to learning more business theory that will aid my work here at RP Analytics. I also have a progress review schedules so that will be great to go over all that I have learnt since starting over 9 weeks ago!
