Business Intelligence Developer - Nottingham

40,000 - 45,000 - Business Intelligence - Business Intelligence
Ref: 26 Date Posted: Thursday 31 May 2018

Our Client is seeking a BI Developer. The successful candidate will be joining one of the fastest-growing and most innovative companies in the FinTech sector.

The role involves working in an intellectually challenging, stimulating and fun environment, with software teams, data scientists, marketing experts and a range of other business functions, all of whom pride themselves at being amongst the best in the business. Our client is a highly data-driven business, and you will play a crucial part in ensuring that robust, secure and well-engineered solutions are produced to deliver the right data to the right people at the right time.

The Company

Our client is widely seen in the industry as one of the most significant innovators in the alternative consumer lending space. They recently won the independent MoneyFacts award for 'Non-mainstream loan provider of the year', and have an extremely high satisfaction rating with their customers. Our client takes great pride in providing finance options in a responsible, ethical way to customers who don't necessarily have a spotless credit record, and they believe that deep data insights, a first-class digital experience, and a fair, responsible treatment of customers are all essential ingredients in what they do.

They also have a fantastic company culture, and genuinely ‘walk the walk’ when it comes to giving their people the chance to be their very best.

What our client needs from you

You will have an excellent handle on most aspects of modern BI and data engineering practices, which may include: capturing data from a range of sources, both traditional (e.g. relational, flat file) and newer formats (e.g. NoSQL, APIs, message queues); data cleansing, processing and pseudonymising; data warehousing (schema design and data management practices) and data mart production; data syndication, reporting and visualisation. You will, of course, be a SQL guru.

You will not be fazed by new challenges, and in particular, you will be able to apply your knowledge and skills to devise smart solutions to novel problems. You will have some experience of the Microsoft BI stack (SSIS/SSAS/SSRS) and will be able to code (ideally in C#) to an intermediate level or above. You will be logical, organised, assertive, and able to quickly identify brilliantly simple solutions to difficult problems.

ven if you are relatively new to the discipline, you will be able to demonstrate a real aptitude and passion for it. This will mean that, in addition to your own experience building data-centric solutions in your current or previous roles, you will take a keen interest in industry trends and developments. You will be aware of the innovations in data storage technologies and data engineering practices, and will take a hands-on approach to acquiring and building your skills in these areas. The following article summarises well the changing role of the data engineer: https://medium.freecodecamp.com/the-rise-of-the-data-engineer-91be18f1e603. Many of the themes in this article will resonate with you.

You will have excellent communication skills, and be very comfortable joining forces with both business stakeholders and your technical colleagues in order to translate and deliver on the requirements. Ideally, you will have worked in an agile development environment, and will understand the unique challenges and opportunities that this brings. Like everyone else at Oakbrook, you will be expected to actively contribute to the continuous improvement of our agile process.

Although not essential, knowledge or experience of the Financial Services sector would be helpful; but either way, you will not be concerned by the prospect of having to become an expert in a new subject matter in a very short space of time.

If you recognise yourself in this description, our client can offer you a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a group of talented, passionate Financial Services experts and software development professionals.
